Founded more than a century ago, the University of Iowa Hawkeye Drumline has a rich tradition that we strive to continue today. From the classic 'Boom' to bring the Hawkeye Marching Band on to the field, to the gameday staple The Series and every beat in between, the Hawkeye Drumline consistently aims to excel and entertain.

What if I am interested in auditioning for the Drumline?
Thank you for your interest in the Hawkeye Drumline! First, fill out the Drumline Clinics + Registration Form. Drumline Instructor Nick Miller will contact you with more information about our Drumline Clinics and Hawkeye Drumline Audition.

Can I audition on more than one instrument for the Drumline?
Yes, you can audition on more than one instrument. Your goal for auditioning should be to make the line.
This means that all auditionees should be open to playing other instruments other than their first choice. It is better to make the line on any instrument than to not make the line at all.
I want to audition on bass drum. What part do I learn?
The bass line should be aware of the composite rhythm; that is, the entire bass part. Be prepared to play any of the bass parts as people will move from drum-to-drum.
What should I bring to the clinics?
You should bring sticks, a practice pad, printed music from the Materials page, comfortable clothes and shoes, money for lunch, and a willingness to learn and get better!
Do I have to bring my own drum to the clinics or audition?
We will provide all instruments, but if you own a drum and/or stand feel free to bring it.
What are the clinics like?
The format of the clinics will start with an informal meeting followed by some stretching and exercising. We will then play together to break down the technique and show how the Hawkeye Drumline runs. We break for lunch from 12-1:30. We usually carpool together to grab some food and good times. After lunch we break off into sectionals before we come together as a full drumline again.
