The Hawkeye Drumline is one of the most visible and exciting sections of the Hawkeye Marching Band. Earning a spot in this group is only the beginning of an amazing journey throughout your time at the University of Iowa. The HMB Drumline marches snare drums, bass drums, quads, and cymbals. Membership in the HMB Drumline is by audition only. Auditionees will be judged on playing and marching ability, attendance, attitude, and work ethic.
In summer 2026, The HMB Drumline will offer three in-person clinics, in which prospective members are highly encouraged to participate. These clinics, as well as the audition, are held on campus. You will need drumsticks, a drum pad, and a metronome. If you do not have one of these items, please contact us ASAP and we will work with you to procure them.
Clinic #1: June 6, 2026 // 9:00 AM - 5:00 PM CDT (Open to All)
Clinic #2: June 13, 2026 // 9:00 AM - 5:00 PM CDT (Open to Fall 2026 Prospectives Only)
Clinic #3/Preliminary Auditions: June 20, 2026 // 9:00 AM - 9:00 PM CDT (Open to Fall 2026 Prospectives Only)

All students selected for the Drumline must attend a day camp on campus on July 25, 2026 (9:00 AM - 9:00 PM CDT). We are exploring making this into a weekend camp (July 24-26). Please hold those dates. More information to come.
Email Associate Director of the HMB and Director Marching Percussion, Dr. Nick Miller or HMB director Dr. Eric Bush if you have any questions. Please email Dr. Miller for details regarding video audition submissions.
