Nacho Pérez, MA Candidate in Trumpet Performance

Biography

Nacho Pérez is a music educator and trumpet player from Portales, New Mexico. He recently received his Bachelor’s degree in music education and performance from Eastern New Mexico University. There, he studied under Dr. Sidney Shuler.

While at ENMU, Nacho performed in the Wind Symphony, Symphonic Band, Brass Choir, Trumpet Ensemble, and several other chamber ensembles and jazz combos. He served as section leader for the Greyhound Sound Marching Band trumpet section from 2021 to 2024. Notably, he contributed to the GSMB’s award-winning “For Whom the Band Tolls” competition submission by arranging and performing an electric bass solo in the opener of the show.

During his time with the ENMU Trumpet Ensemble, he has performed at both the National Trumpet Competition and the International Trumpet Guild Conference. Nacho has taught summer band at local high schools throughout his undergraduate career. He marched with Arsenal DBC in 2019 out of El Paso, TX, and taught on the visual staff in 2024. Additionally, he served as a substitute musician for the Roswell Symphony Orchestra from 2022 to 2024.

When not busy with school, Nacho enjoys gigging with local musicians on trumpet and bass guitar, playing an eclectic variety of genres. Outside of teaching and playing music, he enjoys attending metal concerts, antique shopping, and is an avid collector of all things Batman-related.

Nacho looks forward to a productive and spirited stint with the Hawkeye Marching Band!
