Eastern Iowa's largest band event drew large crowds to the Xtream Arena, where the 45th annual Band Extravaganza kicked off on Sunday afternoon.

Two years ago, in summer 2021, the NCAA suspended generations-old rules barring student-athletes from monetizing their “name, image and likeness” — ushering in a new era allowing collegiate stars to capitalize on their renown. And yet, the NCAA rule change didn’t functionally change anything for members of collegiate marching and pep bands that travel with their schools’ sports teams to hype and entertain the crowd.

Saturdays in September may be dedicated to college football, but that didn’t stop Iowa’s marching band from getting a head start on basketball season with a shoutout to the campus’s biggest star: Caitlin Clark.

We are pleased to reveal a new family of graphics for the Hawkeye Marching Band! We worked closely with the Iowa Athletics licensing office to create new Marching Herky logos for the Hawkeye Marching Band, as well as the Iowa Alumni Marching Band.

We are pleased to announce Nick Miller has been named the new Assistant Director of Bands, Associate Director of the Hawkeye Marching Band and Director of Marching Percussion at the University of Iowa. Mr. Miller has served for the last five years as our Drumline Instructor and a graduate teaching assistant for the HMB.
